The short version
GameLake collects as little as possible. You don't need to give us your name or email to play. We don't sell your data, we don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and you can delete your account and scores at any time.
Who runs GameLake
GameLake (gamelake.com) is operated by Shoaib Anjum, who is responsible for the data described here. Contact: [email protected].
What is stored on your device
To make the games work, we keep a few things in your browser's local storage: your game progress and saved games, settings such as sound, your level, XP and Hop's hats, and, once you've finished a game, a random session key that links this device to your guest player or account.
This stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
What is stored on our servers
Player profile: a random player ID, your nickname (a random one like "Ripple902" until you change it), your level, chosen hat and game progress, so it can be restored on another device.
Account (only if you create one): your username and a securely hashed password. We never store your password itself, and we don't ask for an email address.
Scores: the game, mode, score, whether you won and when you played, so leaderboards and your history work. Your nickname, hat and level are shown publicly on leaderboards.
Anonymous usage counts: each day we count how many times pages are opened and games are started and finished, by language and type of device (phone, tablet or desktop). These counts are not linked to you, your device or your IP address.
Security records: to stop people guessing passwords or flooding the site, we briefly record the IP address used for sign-in, sign-up and guest-creation attempts. These records are deleted after 24 hours.
Why we use it
We use this data only to run the games, save your progress, show leaderboards, keep the site secure and understand which games people enjoy. Our legal basis is providing the service you ask for and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe and improving it.
Cookies
GameLake does not use cookies for players. The only cookie we set is a security cookie for site administrators. If we add advertising in the future, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it before any advertising cookies are used, and update this policy first.
Who else processes data
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which delivers the pages and stores the database. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't share your data with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep your profile, account and scores until you delete them. Guest players who haven't played for a long time may be removed. Security records are deleted after 24 hours.
Your choices and rights
You can change your nickname, sign out, or delete your account and all your scores at any time on the My games page. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to how it's used; write to [email protected] and we'll help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
GameLake is a general-audience site and anyone can play as a guest. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond what's needed to run the games. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
