Play dominoes online for free against Hop the frog. Classic Draw dominoes with a double-six set: match the ends, empty your hand first and race to 100 points, at Easy, Medium or Hard. Prefer no drawing? Switch to Block dominoes. Made for phones, no download.

How to play

  1. You and Hop each get 7 tiles from a double-six set of 28. The rest go face down in the boneyard.
  2. Whoever holds the highest double (6-6, then 5-5…) puts it down first. If nobody has a double, the heaviest tile starts.
  3. On your turn, play a tile whose number matches one of the two open ends of the line. Legal tiles lift up: tap one, or drag it to an end. If it fits both ends, tap the end you want.
  4. No tile fits? Tap the boneyard and draw until one does. When the boneyard is empty you pass. In Block rules there's no drawing: you just pass.
  5. Empty your hand to win the round and score the pips left in Hop's hand. If nobody can play, the game is blocked and the lighter hand wins. First to 100 points (50 on Easy) wins the match.

Tips to win

  • Get rid of heavy tiles like the 6-6 and 6-5 early. If Hop goes out first, every pip in your hand counts for him.
  • Play doubles early too: a double only matches one number, so it's the tile most likely to get stuck.
  • Keep a variety of numbers in your hand so you can answer whatever end Hop leaves.
  • If you hold several tiles with the same number, make that number an open end: you can keep answering it.
  • Watch when Hop draws or passes: he has none of the numbers on the ends at that moment. Leave those numbers open to make him draw again.
  • Stuck? Press Teach me: Hop highlights a good tile and explains why.

Questions

How do you play dominoes?

Each player draws 7 tiles. The highest double starts, then players take turns adding a tile whose number matches an open end of the line. If you can't play you draw from the boneyard (or pass when it's empty). The first player to play all their tiles wins the round and scores the pips left in the opponent's hand.

How do you score in dominoes?

In this classic Draw game the round winner scores the total pips (dots) left in the other player's hand. If the game is blocked, the player with fewer pips wins and scores the other hand. The match goes to 100 points, or 50 on Easy.

What happens when nobody can play?

The game is blocked. Both hands are counted and the player with the lower pip total wins the round. If the totals are equal, nobody scores.

What is the difference between Draw and Block dominoes?

In Draw dominoes you take tiles from the boneyard when you can't play. In Block dominoes there's no boneyard to draw from, so you simply pass, which makes blocking your opponent more important.

How many tiles are in a double-six set?

28 tiles: every pair of numbers from 0 to 6 appears exactly once, including the seven doubles from 0-0 to 6-6. The whole set holds 168 pips.

What's the best strategy in dominoes?

Dump heavy tiles and doubles early, keep a mix of numbers, play toward numbers you hold many of, and remember which numbers your opponent couldn't play on.

Is this dominoes game free?

Yes. Play free in your browser on phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no account.
