How to play
- The board has 8×8 water tiles and starts with four discs in the middle, two of each. You play the green lily pads and move first; Hop plays the pink water lilies.
- Tap one of the dots to place a disc. The dots show every legal move: a move must trap at least one line of Hop's discs between your new disc and one you already have, across, up and down or diagonally.
- Every trapped disc flips over to your colour, in every direction at once. One move can flip several lines.
- If you have no legal move, you pass and Hop goes again. The game ends when neither side can move, usually when the board is full.
- Whoever has the most discs at the end wins. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, or 2 players on one device, and press Teach me whenever you want a hint.
Tips to win
- Take the corners. A disc in a corner can never be flipped back, and it helps you hold the edges next to it.
- Avoid the squares right next to an empty corner, especially the diagonal one. Playing there usually hands the corner to your opponent.
- Don't flip as many discs as you can early on. Fewer discs often means fewer moves for your opponent, and running out of good moves is how games are lost.
- Count your opponent's replies before you move: a move that leaves them only one or two choices is usually a strong one.
- Play the edges carefully. A safe edge disc is good, but an edge disc that can be trapped from both sides is a gift.

Questions
What are the rules of Reversi?
Two players take turns placing discs on an 8×8 board that starts with four discs in the middle. Each move must trap at least one straight line of the opponent's discs between the new disc and another of yours; the trapped discs flip to your colour. If you can't move you pass, and when nobody can move the player with the most discs wins.
How do you win at Reversi?
Grab the corners, stay off the squares next to empty corners and keep your opponent short of good moves. Having many discs in the middle of the game matters much less than having the corners and the last good moves.
Is Reversi the same as Othello?
Othello is a trademarked brand of the same game. The rules here are the standard ones: the same 8×8 board, the same four-disc start and the same flipping rule.
What happens when you can't move in Reversi?
You pass and your opponent plays again. If neither player can move, the game ends and the discs are counted.
How strong is Hop?
Easy makes plenty of mistakes and often gives away corners, Medium looks two moves ahead, and Hard looks five moves ahead and plays the last ten squares perfectly.
Is Reversi free?
Yes. Play free in your browser on phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no account.
