Word Guess

Word · Guess the hidden 5-letter word in 6 tries.

Play Word Guess free online: find the hidden 5-letter word in 6 tries, with colour clues after every guess. A new Daily word every day, plus unlimited practice games from Easy to Hard.

How to play

  1. Type any real 5-letter word with the on-screen keyboard (or your computer keyboard) and press Enter.
  2. Each tile turns a colour: orange means the letter is in the right spot, teal (with a small dot) means it is in the word but in another spot, and dark means it is not in the word at all.
  3. Use those clues for your next guess. You have 6 tries to find the word.
  4. Double letters count separately: if the word has one E and you guess two, only one E lights up.
  5. The Daily word is the same for everyone and changes every day. Easy, Medium and Hard are practice games you can replay as often as you like. Hard makes you reuse every clue you've found.

Tips to win

  • Start with a word that has five different common letters, such as STARE, CRANE or SLATE.
  • On your second guess, try five new letters instead of reusing the ones that turned dark.
  • Remember that letters can repeat. If you're stuck, a word like SHEEP or APPLE might be the answer.
  • Stuck? Tap Teach me (Easy and Medium) and Hop explains what you know and suggests a word that fits every clue.

At midnight, your local time. Everyone playing in the same language gets the same Daily word, so you can compare results with friends using the Share button.

What is the best first word?

A word with five different common letters, like STARE, CRANE or SLATE, tells you the most. Avoid repeating a letter on your first guess.

Can I play more than one word a day?

Yes. The Daily word is once a day, but Easy, Medium and Hard give you a fresh practice word whenever you like.
