Who's playing?

Level 1

Roll a 6 to leave your pond. A 6 rolls again, but three 6s in a row lose the turn. Land on a rival to send it home; stars and start squares are safe. Exact roll to finish. First with all 4 home wins.

Ludo

Board · Race your 4 tokens home against Hop's gang or friends.

Play Ludo free online against Hop the frog and his pond friends, or pass the phone for 2 to 4 players. Roll the die, hop your four tokens around the lily-pad lake and race them home first.

How to play

  1. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard to play against 1 to 3 bots, or Friends to play 2 to 4 people on one device. Pick the number of players and press Start.
  2. Tap the die to roll. You need a 6 to bring a token out of your pond onto its start square.
  3. Tap a glowing token to move it forward by the number you rolled. With only one possible move it moves by itself.
  4. A 6 gives you another roll, but three 6s in a row lose your turn. Land on a rival's token to send it back to its pond. Star and start squares are safe.
  5. Go once around the lake, then up your coloured home lane. You need the exact number to reach home. The first player with all four tokens home wins.

Tips to win

  • Use a 6 to bring out a new token early: more tokens on the lake means more choices for every roll.
  • Don't stop one to six squares in front of a rival; that's exactly where it can land on you. Stars and start squares are safe spots.
  • Capturing a token that has gone a long way hurts your rival the most.
  • Once a token is in your home lane nobody can touch it, so hurry tokens that are in danger and let safe ones wait.
  • Switch on Teach me and Hop points at a good move each turn and tells you why.

Questions

How do you get a token out in Ludo?

You need to roll a 6. The token moves onto your start square, and because you rolled a 6 you get to roll again.

What happens if you roll three 6s in a row?

Your turn ends straight away and the third 6 is not played. The next player rolls.

Can you capture a token on a star?

No. Stars and the coloured start squares are safe: tokens there can't be sent home, and different colours can share them.

Do you need an exact roll to finish?

Yes. A token can only move into the home triangle with the exact number. If the roll is too big, move another token instead.

How many people can play?

Two to four. Play against 1, 2 or 3 bots (Hop, Pip the duck and Shelly the turtle), or choose Friends and pass the device around for 2 to 4 players.

How smart are the bots?

Easy moves almost at random, Medium plays sensibly with the odd slip, and Hard always looks for captures, safe squares and the quickest way home.

Is Ludo free?

Yes. Play free in your browser on phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no account. Your game is saved if you leave mid-way.
