How to score your answers

  1. Each of you picks one answer about yourself and keeps it secret (holding up 1, 2, 3 or 4 fingers under the table works).
  2. Then each of you guesses the other's answer. Say the guess out loud before the reveal.
  3. Reveal together. One point for every right guess.
  4. Before you move on, ask one question about any surprise: "What made you pick that one?"

Play six questions for a short round. Here is what a score can mean, kindly:

A score is a conversation starter, not a verdict. Nobody knows everything about another person, and that is part of the fun.

Score (out of 6)What it can mean
0–2You have lots of fun discoveries ahead. Every miss is a story you have not heard yet.
3Half and half: you know the big things and the details are still waiting. A good place to be.
4You pay real attention to each other. A couple of answers will still surprise you.
5You are clearly tuned in. Celebrate it, then ask about the one you missed.
6A perfect round! Now try another pack, like Dreams or About us.

Get the most out of these questions

  • Answer honestly, not what sounds best. The game works when the answers are really you.
  • Add a "why?" after the reveal. The reason is often the best part.
  • Take turns choosing who reads and who answers first, so nobody feels quizzed.
  • Keep a note of the surprises and use them for gifts, dates and little jokes.
  • Skip any question you would rather not answer. It is a game, not a test.

If you guess wrong, do not say "how do you not know that?". Try "I did not know that, tell me more."

Why guessing games feel good

Relationship researchers sometimes talk about knowing your partner's inner world: their routines, hopes and small preferences. John Gottman called this a "love map". A game cannot measure a relationship and no score predicts anything, but asking and listening is a pleasant way to keep that map up to date.
