How to play
- Each hand you get 13 cards. Before playing, tap 3 cards to pass and press Pass. You pass left, then right, then across, and every fourth hand nobody passes.
- Whoever holds the 2 of clubs leads it to start the first trick. Going round to the left, everyone plays one card.
- You must follow suit: play a card of the suit that was led if you have one. If you don't, you may play any card, which is your chance to throw away the Queen of spades or a heart.
- The highest card of the suit that was led wins the trick, and the winner leads the next one. Hearts can't be led until a heart has been played on an earlier trick.
- After 13 tricks each heart you took counts 1 point and the Queen of spades 13. Take all of them and you shoot the moon: you score 0 and everyone else gets 26. At 100 points the lowest score wins.
Tips to win
- Pass the Queen of spades unless you hold four or more lower spades to hide her behind. Pass the Ace and King of spades too: they are the cards that end up catching her.
- Pass away a short suit, such as two clubs, so you run out of it. When that suit is led you can throw away the Queen or a high heart.
- Duck: when you can't avoid playing the suit, play your highest card that is still lower than the winning card. You lose the trick and get rid of a dangerous card.
- Nobody may throw points on the first trick, so it's a free moment to drop your highest club.
- If you don't have the Queen, lead low spades. Whoever holds her may be forced to play her, and you are safe below her.
- Watch the points each player has taken this hand (the small number by their score). If one player has every point so far, take a heart yourself to stop them shooting the moon.
- Learning? Press Teach me: Hops highlights the cards to pass or the card to play and says why in one line. Coached games are practice, so they don't count as wins.
- Switch on the Classic look for a green felt table, white cards with pips and a grey score window, with the bouncing-cards finish when you win.

Questions
How do you play Hearts?
Each player gets 13 cards, passes 3, and then plays one card per trick, following the suit that was led when they can. Every heart you win is 1 point and the Queen of spades is 13. When someone reaches 100 points, the player with the fewest points wins.
What is shooting the moon in Hearts?
If you take all 13 hearts and the Queen of spades in one hand, you shoot the moon: you score 0 for that hand and every other player gets 26 points.
How much is the Queen of spades worth?
13 points, as much as all the hearts together. That's why most players pass her away or throw her on a trick they can't win.
When can you lead hearts?
Only after hearts are broken, which means a heart has been played on an earlier trick because someone couldn't follow suit. If you have nothing but hearts, you may lead one anyway.
What is the Daily deal?
Everyone gets the same deal each day, with the same cards passed to them. Par is how many points Hops takes playing your seat; take that many or fewer to beat par.
Can I play Hearts online with friends?
Yes. Choose Online, then Play a friend, pick 2, 3 or 4 players and send the link. Hops and his pond friends fill any empty seats, and the table checks every pass and play. Quick match finds you another player.
