Truco game cover

Truco

Cards · Call Truco, sing Envido and bluff Hops out of the hand.

Play Truco free online, the bluffing card game of Argentina and Uruguay. Each hand you get three cards from the Spanish deck: win two of the three tricks, call Envido for points on your best pair of a suit, and call Truco to raise what the hand is worth. Play Hops at Easy, Medium or Hard, or a friend online.

How to play

  1. Truco uses the 40-card Spanish deck: swords, clubs, coins and cups, numbered 1 to 7 and 10 to 12. You each get three cards.
  2. The cards rank in a special order. Highest first: the 1 of swords, the 1 of clubs, the 7 of swords, the 7 of coins, every 3, every 2, the 1s of coins and cups, the 12s, 11s, 10s, the other 7s, the 6s, 5s and 4s.
  3. Play one card each per trick; the higher card wins it. Win two of the three tricks to take the hand. Cards of equal strength tie (parda); then the next trick decides.
  4. In the first trick, before you play your card, you may call Envido: the higher envido scores. Your envido is 20 plus your two best cards of one suit (10, 11 and 12 count 0), or your highest card if no two share a suit.
  5. On your turn you may call Truco: the hand is then worth 2. The other side answers Quiero (accept), No quiero (you score 1 and the hand ends) or raises to Retruco (3); you may raise to Vale cuatro (4). The first to the goal, 15 or 30, wins.

Tips to win

  • Count your envido as soon as the cards land: 27 or more is worth calling, 30 or more is strong.
  • Envido goes first: if Truco is called in the first trick, you may still answer with Envido, and the Truco waits.
  • Lead the first trick with a middle card. Saving your top card for the second trick often wins the hand.
  • A No quiero costs only what the hand was worth before the call, so refuse a big raise when your cards are weak.
  • Stuck? Tap Teach me: Hops picks a card or a call for you and explains why.

Questions

What is the highest card in Truco?

The 1 of swords (ancho de espadas), then the 1 of clubs, the 7 of swords and the 7 of coins. After them come all the 3s and all the 2s.

How is envido counted?

Two cards of the same suit are 20 plus their numbers, with 10, 11 and 12 counting zero, so the best is 33 (the 7 and 6 of one suit). With no two cards of a suit, your envido is your highest single card.

What happens if a trick is a tie?

A tie (parda) in the first trick means the second trick decides the hand. If you win the first and tie the second, you take the hand. If every trick ties, the player who led the hand wins.

What do Quiero and No quiero mean?

Quiero accepts a call and plays it out. No quiero refuses it: the caller scores what the hand or the envido was worth before the call, and a refused Truco ends the hand.

Can I play Truco with a friend?

Yes. Choose Online and send the link to a friend; the host picks a game to 15 or to 30 points.
