Spider Solitaire 4 Suits

Spider Solitaire with 4 suits is the expert version of Spider: all four suits, two decks and ten columns, and only runs of a single suit can move together. It takes patience and a lot of Undo, and not every 4-suit deal can be won, which is what makes a win feel so good.

How to play

  1. 104 cards are dealt: 54 into ten columns, with only the bottom card of each face up, and 50 left in the deck for five more deals.
  2. Place any card on a card one rank higher, whatever the suit. A 7 of hearts can go on an 8 of clubs.
  3. Only a run of the same suit, in order, moves as a group. Mixed runs have to be taken apart one card at a time.
  4. Complete a run from King down to Ace in one suit and it leaves the table. Clear all eight runs to win.
  5. Tap the deck to deal one card onto every column (not while a column is empty). The level buttons switch between 1, 2 and 4 suits at any time.

Tips to win

  • Build in suit whenever you have the choice. A same-suit run can travel; a mixed one is stuck until you untangle it.
  • Empty columns are your best tool. Use one to shuffle runs around and turn over face-down cards before you fill it for good.
  • Go after the columns with the most face-down cards first; they hide the cards you'll need later.
  • Before dealing a new row, tidy up: every deal drops a card on each column and can bury a run you were about to finish.
  • With 4 suits, try a line and Undo if it leads nowhere. Undo has no limit here.

How hard is Spider Solitaire with 4 suits?

It's the hardest Spider level. With four suits, most of your runs end up mixed, so you have far fewer moves. Good players win a fair share of games, but not all of them.

Can every 4-suit Spider game be won?

No. Some 4-suit deals have no solution at all. If you're stuck after trying a few lines with Undo, start a new game.

What's the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suits?

The number of suits in the two decks. With 1 suit every card is a spade, so every run can move; with 2 suits about half are; with 4 suits you have to build carefully in suit to move anything.
