Take a tile (from the middle, or the one the player on your left just threw), then throw one. Finish when all 14 tiles make runs (same colour, in a row) and groups (same number, different colours), or seven pairs. The okey is wild. When someone hits 0 points, the highest score wins.

Play Okey free online, the Turkish tile game played in every café: 106 tiles and four players. You play with Hops the frog and his pond friends Pip and Shelly. Draw a tile, throw a tile, and be the first to lay all 14 tiles in runs and groups, or in seven pairs. The okey is wild, and the indicator tells you which tile it is. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, or play Okey online with friends, up to four people at a table.

How to play

  1. There are 106 tiles: the numbers 1 to 13 in red, yellow, blue and black, two of each, plus two false jokers. After the deal one tile is turned face up as the indicator.
  2. The okey is the tile one higher than the indicator in the same colour (after 13 comes 1). Both okeys are wild and can stand for any tile; the false jokers stand for the okey's own number and colour. The middle of the table shows the okey with a gold rim.
  3. The starting player gets 15 tiles and throws one; everyone else has 14. Play goes round to the right. On your turn take the top tile of the middle stack or the tile the player on your left just threw, then throw a tile into your corner.
  4. Arrange your rack. A run is 3 or more tiles of one colour in a row (1 can follow 13, as in 12-13-1); a group is 3 or 4 tiles of the same number in different colours. Drag tiles to move them, or tap Runs, Groups or Pairs to sort.
  5. When 14 tiles make sets, or seven pairs, tap Finish: your 15th tile goes onto the middle and the hand is yours. Everyone else loses 2 points, 4 if you finish by throwing the okey or with seven pairs, and 8 for both.
  6. On your first turn, if you hold the indicator's twin, tap Show and everyone else loses 1 point. Everyone starts with 20 points (10 in a short game); when someone reaches 0, the highest score wins.

Tips to win

  • Find the okey first: look at the indicator, count one up in its colour, and keep both okeys. Throwing one away hands a free joker to the player on your right.
  • Keep pairs that can grow at both ends (a red 5-6 waits for a 4 or a 7) rather than gaps (a red 5-7 needs exactly the 6).
  • Watch the tile on your left: taking it shows everyone what you're collecting, so take it when it completes a set or fits a strong pair.
  • Don't feed the player on your right. If they took a blue 8 earlier, think twice before throwing a blue 7, a blue 9 or another 8.
  • Count what's gone. When both copies of a tile are in the corners, any set waiting for it is dead, so break it up first.
  • With five or more pairs early on, going for seven pairs is often faster, and it costs everyone 4 points.
  • Save the okey for the finish: finishing by throwing the okey doubles your win.
  • Learning? Press Teach me: Hops points at the tile to take or throw, or tells you that you can finish, and says why in one line.

Questions

How do you play Okey?

Four players get 14 tiles each, and the starting player 15. In turn you take a tile from the middle or the one your left-hand neighbour just threw, then throw one. The first to arrange 14 tiles into runs and groups, or seven pairs, lays the 15th tile on the middle and wins the hand.

What is the okey tile?

The okey is the tile one higher than the face-up indicator, in the same colour; after 13 comes 1. Both copies are wild jokers. The two false jokers (sahte okey) take the okey's own number and colour.

Can 13 and 1 go together in a run?

Yes. 1 can follow 13, so 11-12-13-1 is a run. You can't go round the corner, though: 13-1-2 is not a run.

How does Okey scoring work?

In the classic points game everyone starts with 20 points. When someone finishes, every other player loses 2. Finishing by throwing the okey, or with seven pairs, costs everyone 4, and both at once 8. Showing the indicator's twin on your first turn costs everyone else 1. When a player reaches 0, the highest score wins.

What does showing the indicator mean?

If you hold the other copy of the face-up indicator tile, you may show it on your first turn, and everyone else loses 1 point. After your first turn it's too late.

What happens when the middle runs out?

If nobody finishes before the last tile is drawn and thrown, the hand ends with no winner and nobody loses points.

Can I play Okey online with friends?

Yes. Choose Online, then Play a friend, pick 2, 3 or 4 players and send the link. Hops' pond friends take the empty places, so there are always four racks. Quick match finds you another player.

Is this 101 Okey?

No. This is standard Okey, where you finish with a complete hand. 101 Okey, where you open with sets worth 101 points, is a different game.
